Overview

 

Royal jelly is a thick, creamy substance secreted by the salivary glands of worker bees to feed their larvae. Those larvae which mature into queen bees continue to receive large dosages of royal jelly and live longer, grow bigger, and have greater stamina and energy compared to the other bees. Many theorize that these health promoting effects can also be applied to humans. Nutritionally similar to bee pollen, royal jelly is rich in all of the B vitamins with particularly high concentrations of B5 (pantothenic acid) and B6 (pyridoxine).

 

Initial studies have shown cholesterol-lowering, immune-stimulating, wound-healing, and anti-inflammatory properties. Many advocates of royal jelly associate an increase in energy and vitality. Although further research is needed, royal jelly has been used in conjunction with many age-related disorders including multiple sclerosis, arthritis, menopause, osteoporosis, and heart disease.
