Harvested in the rainforests of Brazil, acai (pronounced /ah-sah-EE/) fruit is rich in antioxidants and is often referred to as a "superfood" because of its health promoting properties. Loaded with naturally occurring Vitamin A, enzymes, minerals (including potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, manganese, boron, and zinc) amino acids, fibers, proteins, and essential omegas, this powerful antioxidant has an established tradition of health promoting benefits. Often used as a folk remedy in Brazil, acai has been used as a remedy for scrofula (a form of tuberculosis), fever, jaundice, anemia, diabetes, hepatitis, malaria, kidney disease, menstrual pain, as well as topically as a wash for skin ulcers.
