Derived from the liver of cod fish, cod liver oil has high levels of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA as well as high levels of vitamins A and D. Cod liver oil is known for its wide range of health benefits including positive effects on the heart, brain, and bone, as well as its hair, skin and nail-nourishing abilities.  Moreover, cod liver oil is widely taken to ease the pain and stiffness associated with arthritis.

Numerous studies highlight the health benefits of cod liver oil. A Norwegian study of more than 68,000 women reported a significantly reduced mortality rate in female cancer patients compared to women who did not take cod liver oil. Researchers in Wales found cod liver oil may delay or even reduce the destruction of joint cartilage and the inflammation and pain of arthritis by blocking the enzyme responsible for joint pain and inflammation and cartilage destruction. Monitored use of cod liver oil during pregnancy is associated with a lower risk of Type I diabetes in the offspring.
