Overview

 

Bee pollen is gathered from bees returning to their hives after they have collected flower pollen from various plants. This potent substance contains carbohydrates, fat, protein, as well as naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. Traditionally used in certain cultures for thousands of years, the use of bee pollen gained an increase in popularity in the 1970's following testimonials by athletes that it increased stamina, immunity, and improved athletic ability. Research and traditional use has shown bee pollen to benefit a wide range of conditions from aging to constipation and prostatic conditions as well as wound healing. Nutritionally relevant, bee pollen contains approximately 30% protein, 55% carbohydrates, up to 2% fat, 3% minerals (including potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese, and copper), as well as concentrations up to 6% of vitamin C and certain B vitamins.
